Crazy Hair Day Octopus

Crazy Hair Day Octopus by Secrets of a SupermomThis morning I turned my daughter’s hair into an octopus for crazy hair day.  It was quite the hit at school this morning and only took me about 15 minutes.

I wish I had taken step by step photos, but I was in quite a rush, but I will describe how I did it as well as possible.  Feel free to comment with clarifying questions.  Here’s how I did it:

You will need:
A sock bun
8 pipe cleaners
2 bobby pins
2 googly eyes
2 hair ties
hair spray

Directions:
Secure googly eyes to two  bobby pins.  I used tape, through the center of the pin and onto the back of the eyes.  I initially tried tacky glue the night before, but they broke off super easy so I moved to tape.

Pull hair on to the top of the head in the highest possible ponytail.  Secure with hair tie.

Place 8 pipe cleaners around the sides and backs of the ponytail, sticking the tops underneath the hair tie and folding them over to secure.

Put the sock bun through the pony tail, and arrange hair over the top of the sock bun, making sure none of the sock bun is showing, and leaving all the extra hair hanging down. Place a hair tie over the top (around the base) of the bun.

Using the extra hair that is hanging down, braid the hair into the individual pipe cleaners.  Bend pipe cleaners as you like to form the tentacles.

Hair spray the whole thing.

Place googly eye pins at the top of the sock bun.
